Club Regulations

The SKC recognizes 3 different types of clubs: Group Clubs, Breed clubs and Specialty Clubs

Group Clubs

These are clubs for a specific group of dogs that certain breeds belong to such as: "The Sporting Group", "The Hound Group", and "The Toy Group".

Running a group club requires a lot of patience and the registrar of the group clubs are required to have a lot of knowledge for a lot of breeds.

Breed Clubs

These are clubs for a specific breed. They are usually run/managed by one person, and all registration applications for dogs of that breed must be sent to that registrar. The registrar will then accept or decline the application and notify the dog’s owner.

Once the registrar has accepted the application, they will put the dog’s details and information into the Master Registry.

Specialty Clubs

Requirements

These are the requirements a member must have to run either a group club or breed club

Group Clubs

* Must be an active member in the community

* Must have knowledge of the breeds and their standards in the particular group you want to run.

* Club leader must have a breed group website with the breed standards and breed clubs listed. Website must be maintained/updated periodically.

* Group Club owners will be responsible for making sure the breed clubs within their group withhold to standards of the SKC and breed standards.

* If there is no breed club for a particular breed within the group, it is the registrars responsibility to approve dogs and add them to the registry list.

* If a breed club registrar leaves or decides to no longer run their club, the group registrar will take over their duties.

Breed Clubs

* Must be an active participant of the community

* Club leaders are expected to own the breed of the club they wish to run and be correct to the AKC standard.

* Club leaders are expected to have a registered kennel for their breed

* Club leaders are expected to create a website for the breed club separate from their kennel website.

The SKC retains the right to remove the club registrar from their role at any time and appoint a new registrar without prior notice.
